3 Major Reasons Why You Need a Website for Restaurants, Food Trucks & Content Creators

Last updated on April 9th, 2024 at 02:16 am

Normally, I don’t tell people what to do, but you need a website for your business.

Whether you have a food truck, restaurant or food business, a website is not a nice-to-have.

It’s a must have.

Why you need a website

And there are 3 reasons why you need a website right now:

1. Social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, etc) can ban, deactivate and delete your account

Why am I including this reason first?

Because so many food business owners and content creators spend hours planning and producing content for social media.

They think that creating a website is too complicated and too expensive.

And they’ve convinced themselves that everyone is on social media anyway, so they won’t stop scrolling long enough to visit a different website.

Well, this is wrong.

Social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook can (and will) snatch your account from you.

Sometimes temporarily.

Sometimes permanently.

This is known as a ban, block, suspension or deactivation of your social media account.

What if Instagram deactivated your account?

Here’s a scenario for you.

Imagine that you spend several hours every week (sometimes daily) putting together content, engaging with followers and staying updated on algorithm changes for Instagram.

You’ve done this for at least 2 years.

Your following has grown and contributed to more sales for your restaurant or food business.

You don’t have a website, but you figured you don’t need one because you’ve made so much progress on Instagram.

Today, after opening Instagram to post your weekend special, you get an error message that says something like,

“Your account has been disabled. Learn how you might be able to restore your account.”

Frantic and desperate, you follow the steps to hopefully restore your disabled Instagram account.

The Instagram team says they will review your request.

How long will the review take? Will you get your account back?

Who knows?

But in the meantime, how will you connect with your customers and followers?

If only you had a website….

2. Because your website is the central hub for your business/restaurant that you control

Most people will never experience losing their social media account.

However, most people either have or will experience significant issues with a social media platform.

For example, due to recent events, many people have stopped using Twitter.

Many creators have deprioritized posting on Instagram for TikTok because their content performs better on TikTok.

When you have a website, you are less concerned with algorithm changes and other issues that come with being on social media.

When you post content on your website, you don’t have to worry about being shadowbanned or being censored.

You have more control over the content and the look & feel of your website than you do over your social media accounts.

And probably the most important reason for having a website for your business is that….

3. You can monetize your website AKA build multiple sources of income

Money isn’t everything, but you *are* running a business.

Not only does your website enable your business, your website can help you make additional income.

Here are some of the ways you can monetize your website:

  • Ads
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Digital products (guides, eBooks)
  • Online courses

Which can be quite lucrative.

But you’ll need to put in a lot of work over a long period of time to get decent money from them.

Maybe you’re not ready for that.

But it’s ok.

If and when you are ready for this, you’ll be a few steps ahead because you’ll already have a website ready to go.
