2. EatOkra
EatOkra is one of the top resources for finding Black owned restaurants and food businesses in the U.S.
Use the website, download the app, or follow an Apple Maps guide (I wrote one on Houston dessert places) to find verified Black owned food spots in categories such as: vegan, soul food, Caribbean and more.
Founders Anthony & Janique Edwards are committed to supporting and empowering food entrepreneurs.
The EatOkra team, in partnership with Dine Diaspora, has awarded $100K to Black women food entrepreneurs through the Black Women in Food Grants.

3. Nourish+Bloom Market
This autonomous grocery store, recently featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, opened in Atlanta, GA in 2022.
Unfortunately (or fortunately?), founders Jamie and Jilea Hemmings didn’t get a deal with any of the sharks but their media coverage has skyrocketed this year.
You can shop for groceries seamlessly at their two locations. Meaning, you don’t have to stand in line or scan your items at the cash register.
Once inside the store, the app keeps track of the items you put in your basket. When you’re finished shopping, you also autopay through the app.

4. Wonderffle
Invented by Mike Bradford, Wonderffle is a stuffed waffle maker that lets you make waffles with your favorite foods inside.
This waffle iron, which comes in cast iron or stainless steel, is used at restaurants, on food trucks, at home and on camping trips.
Years ago, I chatted with Mike about his process for inventing the iron, getting a patent and building his food tech company.

Journey Foods is a software company that utilizes AI to help food companies decrease the amount of money and time it takes to develop their products.
Food companies produce a lot of waste when researching, creating and launching new products to their customers.
Journey Foods aims to reduce this waste & create healthier food options by solving supply chain issues and providing insights to improve the nutritional content of these products.
Riana Lynn, Founder & CEO, launched this SaaS company in early 2019.
