New Orleans snowballs, funnel cakes, milkshakes, banana splits, and ice cream. Their ice cream flavors are: Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, SuperMan, Vanilla, and Butter Pecan.

2. Hank’s Ice Cream Parlor

Banana pudding is the fan-favorite flavor at this handmade ice cream shop that has been family owned and operated for 30+ years. Located in Houston near the NRG Stadium.

3. The Color Cone (ice cream catering)

Cereal-infused ice cream truck with cake pops, cookie dough, and hand-rolled color waffle cones.

You can book this ice cream truck for parties, events & catering and you can get the waffle cones shipped to your door.

4. Patra Lee’s Kitchen: 1848 Heritage Handcrafted Ice Cream

Small batch artisanal ice cream with flavors such as Lemon Chiffon, Butter Rum and Mangolada Sorbet. These flavors are inspired by historical Black figures and events.

Buckshot (a caramel stracciatella) won two awards at the Houston Rodeo Best Bites 2023 competition.

Patra Lee’s Kitchen also provides ice cream catering.

Houston Vegan Ice Cream

5. Mo’ Better Brews (vegan)

One of my favorite food spots, Mo’ Better Brews (formerly Houston Sauce Co), now serves vegan ice cream.

If you listened to my podcast episode with owner & chef, Courtney Lindsay, you would have gotten an early sneak peek!

You can get this vegan ice cream in vanilla or chocolate on top of a waffle or you can get a milkshake, which is a new menu item as of Fall 2023.

Katy Ice Cream

6. Howdy Homemade (Katy)

Rapper Trae The Truth and Rod Batson opened this franchise location in Katy serving homemade ice cream with signature flavors such as Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip and Trae Funnel Cake.

Howdy Homemade employs adults with special needs. Note that this is a franchise but this location is Black-owned.

Pearland Ice Cream

7. Rollie’s Frozen Custard (Pearland) (dairy-free options)

Frozen custard shop in Pearland owned and operated by a wife and husband team. They serve chocolate and vanilla custard daily, along with two rotating specialty flavors.

The custard is freshly made in house, every day. You can get mix ins for your custard, and they serve other desserts such as pies, banana split sundaes, and shakes.

Their dairy free options include Italian ice, Dole Whip and slushies.

Craft Burger (Katy & Houston)

Chef Shannen Tune started Craft Burger in 2015 after winning Food Network TV’s Chopped. Craft Burger is known for their gourmet burgers, craft sides such as ‘Chicken Fried Cheese Curds’ and their milkshakes with one new milkshake flavor rotating every month.

Some of their milkshake flavors include: ‘Confetti Cake Shake’, ‘Strawberry Short Cake Shake’, ‘Sweet Potato Shake’, and ‘Maple Bacon Bourbon’.

The Funnel Bar (ice cream catering)

Founded in 2017, The Funnel Bar serves funnel cakes in three different sizes (4”, 6” and 8”) and banana pudding. There are at least 15 different funnel cakes you can choose from with toppings such as cheesecake bites, pralines, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, and fresh berries.

Each funnel cake and banana pudding comes with a choice of ice cream, such as vanilla, ‘Krazy Color Cookie Dough’, ‘Praline Pecans N Cream’ and more.

They do pop ups at various Houston area locations as well as private events & catering. Also, they are cashless (they don’t accept cash).
